Color Mode

Appropriate color mode should be applied when one is setting up art to print. The appearance of colors on the screen is in the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) format, which does not coincide with the color format of print and the color format on the screen. Whenever you intend to send files to print it is always a good practise to convert your files to CMYK or Pantone (PMS) so you can provide the right color reproduction.

CMYK

The CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key.

  • Suitable with full color designs and pictures.
  • Recommended for multi-color artwork, gradients and photographs.
  • Appropriate when your design contains complex visual elements or multiple shades.

Pantone

The Pantone PMS is a color-matching scheme used to print accurate colors.
  • Most suitable for solid color matching
  • Recommended forsingle-color artwork, brand colors or designs with solid backgrounds.
  • Maintains color consistency on various print materials.

Fonts and Text

To maintain print clarity and professionalism:

Text Size

  • All the text must be legible in print-You must not use a font size that is less than 6pt.

Font Style

  • Use vector-based fonts or outline your fonts before submitting your file in order to avoid font issues.
  • Use print-safe fonts for better compatibility and readability

Resolution

The important factor of print quality is resolution. If high resolution is not used then it will result in pixelated and unsharp images.

Text Size

  • Minimal Requirement of the Resolution: All the images must have 300 DPI (dots per inch) resolution.
  • Never print at a web-resolution (72 DPI).

  • Make sure all images are of high-resolution prior placing them into your print layout.

File Formats

Applying the right file type will make sure that the print of your design is made as you would expect.

Recommended

  • PDF (high resolution and embedded fonts)
  • Artificial intelligence (Adobe Illustrator)
  • EPS (vector files)
  • TIFF or PSD (higher res pictures)

Secondary

Avoid submitting files in JPEG or PNG unless they have high-resolution and placed correctly within a print-ready layout.
